I think this speaks volumes of the value of the humble Typhoon.

Wow, what an incredible job! Thanks for sharing this video. Tip: try playing the video at 0.5 speed--the images flash by too quickly to savor.
I thought I had put some money into my Typhoon, but this is a whole new level--a $150,000 "restoration"!
If this is a 1973 model as the video title says, then I think it is a Naugus Typhoon, not a Cape Dory. It looks like the deck molds changed between Naugus and Cape Dory, and that nice little V-platform for the rudder went away. I bet that platform took care of the tendency for the rudder tube to let water into the cockpit when more than two people are aboard. I wish Cape Dory hadn't changed that. And what is this tube at the bow for? My 1980 Cape Dory Typhoon doesn't have one. Smooth sailing,
Jim

I'm mostly jealous of the tiny self-tailing winches.

I totally missed that. The winches are Lewmars ST16's. I suspect that they changed out the winch bases with a larger size. Spartan has 5 different sizes of winch base.Ben Miller wrote:I'm mostly jealous of the tiny self-tailing winches.
I never use the winches on my Typhoon, but I've been dreaming of changing to self-tailers on my CD22.
I like the way they painted the spars buff with a white tip, as is common on traditional boats.
I don't like the way they used finishing washers instead of wood plugs. I know it makes it easier to take the wood off and varnish, but I just don't like the look.

Wow, gives a nautical meaning to no stone unturned! Wonderful job. Did a rehab on my previous Typhoon but not anywhere near this. Did that boat come from R.I. Several years ago I tried to buy one in similar condition . Very good! Brian
