Calculating CD28 Sail Dimensions - the Dark Arts

Post by David Rattray »

Waiting for my first cup of coffee to kick in today, I took a stab at calculating the CD28 sails' actual areas in square feet (as opposed to sail area) from the manual. I put the dimensions into a neat triangle calculator at http://cossincalc.com/

Here's what I got:

self-tacking jib as shown in manual: 147.25 sq. ft.
main as shown: 181 sq. ft.

This is all very interesting, but I have my doubts.
