Thanks to those who responded to my cry for help regarding the weird black dots that appeared on the deck of my CD25 after a three week absense from the boat. I took what appeared to be the least invasive approach of those that were suggested and it worked (kind of). I used a bleach and water solution (5 to 1) and it pretty much did the job. It must have been mildew, although some of it remains. I did try the mechanical approach in small spot (i.e., bon ami(sp?) with lots of elbow grease) but it didn't work too well.
I'm still not convinced that it was spiders, as was suggested. The distribution was too wide-spread and I've never seen a bug on the boat.
Thanks again for the help.

Re: Black Dot Follow-up
I had a similar problem and it continues. It is mildew. and the quickest way to get it and any other junk off is to use a white sidewall cleaner "Blech Whilte"or the like that you find in auto stores such as NAPA. Spray it on, let sit for a min. or so, scrub and rinse. The stuff is a strong alkali (Na meta silicate) but it will not affect gel coat or fiberglass. But it might dull regular varnish tho Cetol seems resistant. It sure beats boat soaps and abraisives. I have used it for two years on the deck of my CD25D with no problems or dulling.
