Filling a hole in CD25 Hatch

Post by john_mendelson »

My CD25 has what looks to be the original hatch and I'd like to patch the 4.5" circular hole that used to hold a solar vent rather than get a new one. The material is some sort of browned/yellowed plexiglass. Can anyone recommend a material to fill the hole? Will probably paint over the whole thing and replace eventually. Can I just use fiberglass with epoxy resin?

Thanks,

John

Why not just replace the vent? They are good to have.

You cannot use epoxy on Lexan. A new solar vent would be a MUCH better route, better than even replacing the whole sheet of Lexan.

The hatch in my 1975 CD 25 was non-gelcoated fiberglass. If that's what you have John, you can just grind a bevel and glass it. If you have a more advanced hatch then pay attention to the other advice.
I'd be inclined to replace the solar vent; I installed one on my CD25 and it really freshened up the interior.
