Mounting a Wind Instrument Display Next to the Companionway

Post by pvisich »

Hi All,
Have a CD 30MKII and recently purchased a wireless GNX windpack. Thinking of mounting the display unit to the right of the companionway so that I can see it from the helm. It appears I will need to drill a 3.5 inch circler hole for the display unit and was wondering if anyone has done this before. I was wondering if there is an open space between the outer and inner side and could I snake a wire down between both sides to bury the wire that runs from the instrument to the NMEA 2000 backbone for power, or do I need to drill all the way through and have the wire exposed, which I am trying to avoid. Would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks in Advance, Paul

When I mount a new electrical panel on the bulkhead of our 27 I found that there was a space between the inner and outer walls, it varied a lot. How deep is the display itself?

Thank you for sending this information. I measured the back after connecting the power line and it looks like I would need 2 1/2 inches to allow space for the wire to come out of the back of the display unit then turning 90 degrees down. I am starting to think that much space is probably not there and most likely I will need to drill all the way through. But I guess I can drill through the outer layer and then measure how much space I am dealing with, before drilling all the way. I appreciate you taking time to send this drawing. Happy Sailing. Paul
