Anyone know the hoist and foot length of a racing spinniker for the CD-36? I bought a 15' 6" pole, and wanted to buy a used sail to try it out before I invested in a new one. Also any feedback on placement of a second pair of winches aft the the exisiting ones?

CD-36 Spinniker Hoist and foot Lenght?

Re: CD-36 Spinniker Hoist and foot Lenght?
my understanding is that the size is limited by severaal factors. pole length is usually same as the "J" i.e,front of mast to headstay fitting. you can go longer, but it is penalized if racing. pole length then determines foot length. i think the foot is 1.8 x pole length. luff length is 95% of headstay length, unless your pole is short, in which case it is .95 x square root of (mast height squared plus pole length squared). this is all based on the IOR rule. if you are not racing you can make it as big as you want if you have a longer pole, but handling becomes an increasing problem.Bill Cahill wrote: Anyone know the hoist and foot length of a racing spinniker for the CD-36? John's comments echo mine. iuse a cruising chute and have found moving the fairleads as far aft as possible and then using my self tailing winches has been adequate for my downwind sailing. The pole length should not be a factor.Bill Cahill wrote: Anyone know the hoist and foot length of a racing spinniker for the CD-36?
