Hello fellow CD sailors,
I'm trying to avoid paying storage fees to a marina for my CD 25. For the past two years I've stored my boat in my front yard to the left of my driveway. This was fine until a new neighbor surveyed his property and discovered that three feet of my land was really his. Now I have just over 11 feet of space to put my boat. Given that the CD 25 has a 7-foot beam, how wide will it be when sitting on top of a set of Brownell boat stands? I don't want to come too close to the driveway because I'm afraid a car will accidentally hit a stand while backing up.
The two local marinas are just too pricey for me. I am investigating a third inland yard that might be more reasonable. In the meantime, if anyone has a CD 25 sitting on stands nearby, I'd appreciate a quick measurement.
Thanks in advance.
Chris

You could go with a cradle, they are more secure and also have a smaller footprint.

Could you work out something with the neighbor? Perhaps monetarily for the winter months, that would be less than a yard?casampson wrote:Hello fellow CD sailors,

This is not a precise measurement, but the legs on my jack stands stick out roughly three feet on each side beyond the hull. For a 7-foot beam, that would be roughly 13 feet. You could cheat another foot by not placing a jack stand at the widest part of the boat. Even so, 12 feet still is not 11. Would your neighbor actually quibble over a foot or two seasonally? It all boils down to how well you know your neighbor. Just because it was surveyed doesn't necessarily mean they would take a hard line on this.

Once, upon moving into a new house, I had a fence guy come out to give me an estimate on a backyard fence for the dog. Five minutes after the fence guy started, my next door neighbor came out and to make a long story short, insisted we get a copy of the plot from city hall. Had to replan the fence for two feet of difference. So, you never know who you are dealing with.
Just curious. How do you get the boat onto a cradle or jack stands at your home ? If you trailer the boat can you just leave it on the trailer ?
