Expecting delivery of Robinhood 36

Post by Senorjacob »

Hi
I’m the proud new owner of a Robinhood 36, hull #1 (aka hull #200, aka Legacy). I’ve been lurking here for a few weeks until the sale was finalized and now that it is I decided to register and introduce myself.

I’m transporting it from NC to Cape Cod and it should be here sometime this weekend. It’s my first boat. I’ve been sailing for a few years out in Santa Monica bay but I’ve only sailed on the East coast with a friend who has a Southern Cross 35. He will be my sailing mentor when the boat arrives.

The survey turned up very little wrong with the boat. I do have a punch list of things to fix but it’s relatively minor stuff. It doesn’t have a windlass so this season I expect to build up my shoulders. My plan is to install a windlass over the winter.

Any insights, thoughts, or advice you may have are welcome.

Welcome to the forum. Congratulations on purchasing a fine boat.

I was on Legacy when she was a featured boat at the Annapolis boat show way back in 1999 or 2000 I think. She has a very special story and name and I assume you are familiar with her background? She helped seal the deal for us on searching for a CD 36. You chose well.

I use a manual windlass and have enjoyed it over an electric windlass. Depends on your philosophy. Either is fine but make sure you don’t skimp and it is reliable and bulletproof.

Thanks, Jim.

John, yes I’ve just recently become aware of some of the history of this boat. I talked to Gordon Reed at Robinhood Marine and he gave me some back story. He also sent me some of the original promotional material for when Robinhood started taking orders. The material features pictures of Legacy.

I’m unclear on the history after Legacy’s owners sold her. The seller that I bought her from named her Miss Meliss. I’m not sure if there was an owner between Legacy and Miss Meliss. Any details you could fill in would be appreciated. Of course I read the article that is posted here on CDSOA about her.

Btw, I didn’t find any of this out until we settled on a price after the survey. It was a pleasant surprise to find all of this out. I love history and would love to know more about where she’s been.

Here’s a pic of her all loaded up and ready for the trip to the Cape. She should arrive here on Monday (hopefully).

I was thinking the same thing. She is beautiful.

I'm on the Cape as well. Are you on the Bay side, Buzzards bay or Nantucket sound? I was out today in the sound blowing a steady 25 kts under double reefed main and staysail, Glorious!!! They call me the insane Cape Dory guy in my harbor. If they only knew!

I definitely got lucky for this to be my first boat. No doubt about it.

Hi Kieth. I’m in the bay side. East Dennis. Where are you? I would have been out there too. It looked fun!

Yes, we echo the welcome to the CD community.

It is indeed a lovely craft you adopted, another of the long and elegant 36. We've seen many in our suma mer stays in Maine and there all eye candy.

Should you wander up to mid-coast Maine this summer, stop into Northeast Harbor on Mt. Desert Island. Our 31, "Glissade" is moored at a 2-boat float as you come in the inner harbor, on the right and we'd be glad to meet you.

You'll find she's a sea kindly, dry sailor. A big bonus for CDs once you get north of the Cape is the relative immunity to pick up lobster floats on your prop or rudder. In 7 summers of cruise Maine and the Maritimes, we've yet to snag one.

Good luck with the launching and outfitting. Bring your question to this forum and you'll get lots of wisdow.

Have a great first summer on your yacht.

Thank you so much for that warm welcome. I do hope we get to venture north at some point. Having only sailed in Santa Monica Bay, the East Coast presents so many possibilities and places to see.

I will definitely bring my questions here.

I just saw your boat cross over the Goldstar bridge in New London Connecticut on I95.

She arrived!

But she capsized! (I don’t know how to turn the photo around.)
