My rub rail and bowsprit was damaged this summer when a trawler's anchor dragged and the boat smacked up against my cd31. i need about 1 foot of the rail replaced, probably scarfed. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. I can't find a marine carpenter in Brooklyn, NY. Does anyone know of a carpenter in the NY area.

I have similar damage ( I bought it that way) I plan on skarfing in some pieces myself. I epoxied skarfs on the toerail of my previous boat, they came out well and lasted. I just read about it and took my time, went slowly.

This is a detailed article on scarfing in rub rails, etc. It is probably MUCH more detailed than you need for only one (1) foot of rub rail to replace but my guess is the basic procedures and steps are the same.
I replaced about 10 inches of the rub rail on my previous Typhoon Weekender. If I can do it with my almost non-existent carpentry skills, anyone can do it.

The shipwright at Lockwood Boat Works in Morgan (South Amboy), NJ is excellent but it’ll cost you big bucks for a professional job.

There’s major shoaling both at the approach and within the inlet to Cheesequake Creek. Enter on a rising tide no later than 2 hours before low tide, 3 is better. Stay close to the green side of the channel. The “Rte. 35 Morgan Highway” bridge opens on the hour. The “NJ Transit Morgan Rail” bridge opens on demand. Both monitor VHF CH. 13.

Robinhood Marina still has lengths of rubrail and toerail from its manufacturing days. They saved my event on a CD 27.
