Fall Sailing is Right Around the Corner
Best time of the year (IMHO) coming up soon here in Southern New England. Whimsy is proving to be a thoroughbred compared to the previous 18-22 foot trailersailors that I've owned both in terms of build quality and sailing characteristics Looking forward to sailing her in the crisp fall air when the sun isn't so intense.

Fall is a good thing because it will mean that hurricane season is over

Fred, as a fellow 27 owner, if you had anything what we had on the Chesapeake today you missed out. Upper teens gusting low 20s, we had the 2nd reef in the main and only 60% or so of the genoa out and I was amazed at how well she balanced. It was my first time in such winds and waves, and it was a real confidence booster.fmueller wrote:A little too much Fall air across Narragansett ... I can’t wait for fall. Went out to the boat today. Smoking hot in Florida and the humidity is oppressive. October can’t come soon enough!

Actually hurricane season's just getting started. Fall is when I start to keep an extra-sharp eye on weather in case I need to move the boat to the inner harbor or haul out early.gonesail wrote:Fall is a good thing because it will mean that hurricane season is over
But fall is absolutely the nicest sailing here in New England. Water is as warm as it's going to get, air is generally cool and crisp, humidity levels down, less crowded...and the afternoon light is magic.

I was out there Sun from 9am till 5ish. Had a blast, ran from West River across to Bloody Point LH, then tacked north to the Severn, with a great run downwind from there back to West River. Was in a friend’s Pacific Seacraft 27 Sundaycsoule13 wrote:Fred, as a fellow 27 owner, if you had anything what we had on the Chesapeake today you missed out. Re: Fall Sailing is Right Around the Corner
Agree with all that Sunday was blast. We headed out into the LI Sound around 4 pm with the wind from the Northeat at around 18 mph gusting to 23 mph. Anticipating strong winds we put a reef in at the mooring but reading another post I think we should of pulled in the jib as well to about 60%. By that time in the afternoon the waves had built to four feet from the east and it made our return to Port Jefferson Harbor a bit rough as they hit us broadside. We loved the wind but not sure about the waves.
Here is a picture of Mount Misery Point, just east of the entrance of to Port Jefferson harbor.
