YSB 8 tachometer or warning horn or nothing.

Post by Walter Hobbs »

My YSB 8 in my 77 CD 27 has a panel with three idiot lights, an ignition switch, and a 2 inch cut out for a gauge or a buzzer(warning horn). The engine runs fine, have had to use it for several hours on windless days. However only one light was functional when purchased. Now all three lights have been repaired/replaced. Water temp still not functional, new sender on the way. My question is, what goes in the 2 inch cut out? I think it may be the warning horn, there are two unused wires in the wiring harness. Maybe it is for a small tachometer? I have owners/operators manual but have no picture of tach or warning horn in any wiring diagram. No apparent wire on alternator for tachometer.

Anyone have a YSB with something in that 2 inch hole?

I don't have a YSB 8 but I suspect it was a warning horn. Personally I would mount a buzzer someplace else and use the 2" hole for something more useful like a tachometer, oil pressure or temperature gauge. I believe 2" tachometers are available but it they require a compatible alternator.

Walter,

That's what I had - it was a horn and loud ... so loud I taped it over with e tape and it was still loud.

Thanks Fred,

Are you still at RIYC? I'd like to come by and how you have your reefing set up. Mine is not complete. Also do you have lazy jacks?

thanks, Walter
