Mount for Typhoon Senior/CD22 Electrical Switch Panel

Post by MHBsailor »

From what I can tell from looking at other TY Seniors and CD22s during my search for Whimsy, Cape Dory originally mounted the factory-supplied Blue Sea Systems 12/24V DC model 8023 power distribution panel in a small cabinet made of the same material as the cabin liner and attached it to the port cabin liner near the companionway (see photo below). Ideally I would like to match this look when I add the same panel to my TY Senior (so I can also add an voltmeter/ammeter and battery switch), which came without an electrical system as it was daysailed most of its life. Does anyone know where I might find a fiberglass cabinet like this that would match? I'm wondering if the factory made them or sourced them from a vendor? In the alternative, I may have to have a custom teak cabinet made for it. Thanks! JD

That cabinet was part of the liner mold and and not something you are going to be able to purchase.

Your best bet would be, to make up a nice wooden box for your electrical components. I don't think the Blue Sea stuff was original but it sure is nice. I added a Blue Sea auxiliary panel on Raven and it is far nicer than the original panel. If you do make up an electrical box, it will give you an oppertunity to hinge the front for easy access. This is something I would highly recommend, Steve.
