Was looking at Maine Craigslist for a cheap tender, and was surprised at the prices on some Cape Dories. Some fixer-uppers, for sure, but there was a free Typhoon and a $750 CD25. Plus a 28 for under $10K. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone's bargain shopping: https://maine.craigslist.org/search/sss ... y&sort=rel
It sure seems like a big-time buyer's market out there when it comes to used sailboats. A local yard said a couple years back that they're willing to give away boats that were abandoned by their owners during/after the recession just so they can reclaim yard space.
Kind of sad, really. Thing is, I never see young people or families with kids sailing. My family goes to an island that has a favorite harbor for cruisers--95% of the boaters we see are retirees or close to it. The rare time we see kids it's with their grandparents. Makes you wonder about the future of sailing.
p.s. anybody have a used tender they want to unload?

Re: deals on Maine Craigslist
I cruised with my kids on our former CD25 for a week at a time. We looked like a clown car with a family of five spilling out of a CD25. There may be good reasons you don't see kids cruising. When you are raising your family, you generally have a smaller boat, which becomes even smaller at anchor. By the time you can afford a bigger boat, the kids have their own interests. I see a lot of kids day-sailing. Not so many cruising.
