Raymarine P70 autopilot head

Post by csoule13 »

Not CD specific, but I am hoping the group knowledge here can point me in the right direction.

My old man's sailboat has a Raymarine whell pilot. The unit is, I believe, an XP-5, with a P70 head in the cockpit. He says "It won't turn on, and you're better at this electric stuff than I am." We have confirmed power to the XP-5 and the P70. Additionally, pushing buttons on the head unit gives us a good chirping sound of a unit acknowledging that you have done something. Regardless, the display of the unit remains blank.

Have tried, I think, to increase the brightness, to know avail. There's a throw away line in the manual about the unit being in sleep mode and that it gives the impression of being off, but not actually off.

Anyway, before I call Raymarine and have them tell me I need to give them money, I was hoping someone here had some knowledge that will lead to an Ah Ha moment.

Much appreciated as always,
Chris

Femme has one of these control heads and it inexplicably takes three or four pushes, of different durations, of the 'on' button to actually light up. If you call Raymarine, they may not really be able to help you unless you have updated the software on your autopilot/control head. You need to do that either through a pc or one of their MFD's.

You may take a look at this link for a p70 setup before you go further and plan on phone time with Raymarine techs.
