1974 CD25 Mast/Deck light - bulb(s)

Post by John L. Reizian »

The previous owner of my 1974 CD25 removed the bulb of the mast/deck light in order to replace it, but he replaced the boat before he did the bulb. Now the old bulb is missing and I'm in the dark about finding a replacement. Any other owners of the 1974 model familiar with the part? or an equivalent? Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated. In fact, before I find I have to repeat this cry for help for the other navigation lights, if you have the specs for them, I'd appreciate those as well.

Thanks again and please accept my apologies for the pun. Now I'm done. Best regards. JR

JR,

Rig-rite made the original spars and the light fixtures and they still have them. I'll bet a call to them will answer your questions.

I've not had much luck with Rig-Rite (and, by the way, a replacement fixture is $150), but the masthead/deck fitting on my CD27 appears to be a cast housing with some standard Perko parts screwed in. The steaming light is 10 amps and the deck light 20 amps. I think I have spares in the basement; if so, I will check the model numbers.

I bet you meant that those lights were 10 Watts and 20 Watts respectively..not Amps. That would take the battery down right-quick, but boy would you show up from 2 miles away!

You are right..Perko was the supplier for the mast lights. There are better sorces available now though...

Just bought a replacement steaming light (Perko)from West for ~$26 for my 25D. It's actually an improvement over the original. It is "self contained" with its own mounting base plate. The bulb base for the old one was "glued" onto the aluminum fixture casting. The new also has tinned wiring.dvw

Do you think that Perko might have also supplied the mast lights for my 1974 CD25? The posted "manual" indicates a 12V6W bulb for one of them (in a Spartan fixture). Speculating that it was a Perko fixture in reality, what's the consequence of using a higher wattage bulb?

Yes, watts not amps. It had been a long day.

The bulb in the Perko replacement steaming light I just bought was
"10V10W Perko Fig.71" It was about 1-1/2" long and came to a point on both ends. Cpmpletely different than the original std bulb.dvw
