Will Visitor 250,000 Please Stand Up?

Visitor number 250,000 is invited to identify him/herself and claim the prize Dennis has offered - your choice of a hat or burgee.

You may post a response here. Or if you want to remain anonymous, email me privately and I will keep your identity (and the federal agency you log in from) confidential.

Thanks to everyone for being good web citizens and not pounding the refresh button. It was a clean contest.

Walt, it was really hard not hitting Reload just once when I discovered I was number 249,999, but I waited and got 250,005 several minutes later.

Thanks for the fun of guessing when to log on.

Gee, if those are the numbers you saw, maybe my log is off by one. That means visitor 250,000 logged in from a venerable East Coast university. Are you out there? Hello?

If number 250,000 doesn't show up to claim the prizes, I nominate Ken for the alternate. To see 249,999 and not hit reload takes real willpower. That kind of class should be rewarded. The LMCDOA offer of one of our burgees still stands. For those of you on the left or right coast it should be a real conversation starter.

Jerry,

Thanks for the nomination. I think it would be more fun to surprise the real winner if we can find him.

However, I have been meaning to order a license plate holder for my boat car ('89 Astro van) so I can really irritate the people at the YC. I may have some class, but I really have attitude and a sense of priorities.

Off to the boat...

If # 250,000 can't be located, I'll "bite the bullet" and volunteer! I'm on the East Coast and god knows I'm probably clicking onto this site 6 or 7 times a day. Perhaps it really was me!

The seclusion exhibited by the 250,000th visitor is totally understandable. Sure, it could have been the Nebraska lottery requiring accountants and lawyers, but this is something really big, a Cape Dory hat or burgee. Even though I fully understand the need for secrecy, the suspense is killing me. Please stand up! I do confess though, I hit the reload key several times. Not to win because I was still several hundred "whacks" away, but just because it felt illicit. I am not nutty like some by going to this board 60 to 70 times a day, but I check it religiously twice a day because of the solid information I get from people who sail in much more exotic and exciting places than Nebraska.

I seldom wait for the counter to appear before I dive into the recent postings. I wonder if the 250,000th did the same.

I usually check the postings a couple times a day. When it was close, I watched the counter and saw that I was about 25 before. The next time I came on, I was about 125 past. So it's not me!

But it is a chance to say thanks for the board. THANK YOU!!!

Al
