Looking to buy CD25D

Post by smbucher »

I need your help. I've located a 25D that looks pretty good from some recent photos. It's over a 10 hour drive to see her up close. There seems to be holes or cracks in the fiberglass near the bottom of the keel just forward of the rudder on both sides. Is there a hidden, deep sump in the bottom of the keel that could have frozen at some point? I've seen mention of installing a garboard plug to drain it or cutting an access hole in the top of the sealed keel to stuff a small hose down to suck it out.

Is there anything else that I need to eyeball closely?

When we were interested in a boat that was 1800 miles away I talked to a few surveyors and found that most were willing to do a "drive-by" and take a few photos for under $100. I got some photos and an opinion that led us to pass on that boat, but led us to another very nice one nearby.
Call a few surveyors that are located close to that boat and see what they are willing to do.
