replacement parts Cape Dory 30

Post by ogrodnickj »

Does anyone know where you can obtain a replacement holding tank vent? Too many years in the salt environment. My Cape Dory 30 has a 3/8 inch diameter thru hull for the vent. I checked online and with Spartan. It seems the current tank vents are 5/8 inch diameter. I'd prefer not to make a larger hole thru the hull. Thanx.

MAKE THE HOLE LARGER.

The original vent line on Raven was 1/2". When you reduce it for fittings and add a bit of scuzz you are left with a very ineffective venting system. Holding tanks need air and certainly need to be able to freely vent when they are being filled or emptied. The half inch line was marginal at best.

If you are working on this system already then this would be a very good time to move up to a 3/4" vent line. I did this on Raven a few years back. I mounted a 3/4" barbed through hull in the top of the holding tank. Yes you will have to put your hand in there but just wear a pair of rubber gloves and get over it. I then ran a 3/4" hose to a new (used) 3/4" bronze vent. You can never have too much ventilation in the holding tank but the opposite cannot be said, Steve.

The current recommendation is for two vent lines of 1" diameter each. Gotta get that cross flow going.
