CD Power Boats

I would like to know how many CD power boats we have here in the Chesapeake Bay. Maybe we could have a rendezvous or at least exchange tips and ideas.

I think you'll find that there are allot more boat owners without computers or access to the internet than there are those that do. You may have to advertise in a publication like Soundings as well as by word-of-mouth. If you want to have a rendezvous, just do it -- "If you build it, they will come."

I believe the first CCDOA rendezvous was attended by 3 yachts. Walt can give you the details. So don't give up.

Before the Onset rendezvous last year, I printed notices and posted about a dozen in each of the local marinas. That's one way to spread the word. I also walked around local boatyards looking for Cape Dories -- found quite a few -- and handed the rendezvous notices to the owners if they were there and left other notices taped to the boats' cradles or jackstands inside ziploc bags.

You can also try contacting Joe Wysong (e-mail: tgjournal@gestalt.org). He's got a list of CD owners. I think it includes powerboats too -- not sure, you'll have to check with Joe.

Catherine is right - California Cape Dory Owners Assn. started six years ago with three boats at a rendezvous. Although we're mostly sail now, our founding fleet was a 30' motorsailer, a 28' flybridge, and my 30' flybridge. Mike Fahy talked Sandy into buying the motorsailer. Later, after Mike met me at the fuel dock in Benicia, he organized the rendezvous. And it just grew.

Also - do you have regional boating publications? Here in S.F. Bay we have several "throwaway" boating papers and an area-wide magazine. They all have "calendar" features and will list upcoming events for free, if you give them a few months' notice.

We have a few in this area also. I was just fishing on the net, guess I didn't catch anything but got a few bites. We are going to plan for a rendevous in the Baltimore Inner Harbor and are thinking about Sept. Even if we are the only boat, we always have fun.
