Just when you thought it might be safe to go back onto (or into) the water.

My diving and sailing activities have been significantly restricted by a medical issue. However, friends advise that many (if not most) of the reefs in the Keys have been substantially "rearranged" by Hurricane Irma. Underwater navigation markers (a sea fan, a brain coral, etc.) are gone. I have also read other reports of many surface navigational buoys/markers missing in Biscayne Bay and the Keys.
Irma's rage will be felt in South Florida for several years to come. There are many stories from divers about the "rearrangement" of the sea floor, artificial reefs (a/k/a shipwrecks), etc. after Hurricane Andrew (24 August 1992). 25 years later and it is still different. Mother Nature will always have her way.
