Cape Dory 22 Gooseneck Help, Please.
Hey CDer's, I'm putting a Hurricane Harvey-damaged CD 22 back together and have received some great help here so far in rebuilding the mast. The mast itself was snapped in half and accidentally hauled off, so I've been flying blind in trying to replace the attached parts. The last piece of the puzzle for me is now the gooseneck fitting – attaching the boom to the mast. My somewhat limited sail boat owning experience isn't helping me here.
What I'm unclear on is what I'm missing on the mast side to receive the gooseneck on the boom (if anything). Attached are two photos - The first image is of one of my marina neighbors' CD Weekender (or Senior - I don't know the difference). It has a piece that screws into the mast to receive the boom.
The second image is of my existing gooseneck on the boom. It appears (to me) to be designed to slide into the sailfeed - with no clear way for it to attach to a fitting like the example above. If it does indeed NOT need a receiving piece on the mast, what keeps it there? Do I need a sailstop? Or am I missing the fitting that attaches to the mast?
Help, please!

I was about to suggest just looking thru the manual... but I took a quick scan and see that Cape Dory didn't document the attachment.
On my Typhoons, the goose neck fitting was allowed to slide up and down. The mast also had a knurled knob/sail-stop that kept the luff slugs from falling out the slot. Once the goose neck is in the slot, you can cleat the down haul to keep the boom from rising high enough to exit the slot. After loosing the sail-stop during a reefing exercise, I made a habit of having two of them!
One below the goose neck so it couldn't slide to low and as a spare in case I dropped the other one overboard again...
After doing that, I never lost the stop again!

I also have a CD22, and the bottom photo, with sail stops as detailed previously, is how my boat is rigged. The hooks on the goosenecks are for reefing your main.
Re: Cape Dory 22 Gooseneck Help, Please.
you will need to measure the inside span of the track on your boom's gooseneck car and order a length of shaeffer ( sp?) track to attach to the mast. The nice thing about this way of attaching your boom is that you can pull down on the boom to adjust your downhaul tension.

Just a quick observation. You need to rotate the reefing hook 180 degrees. They should be on the same side as the tack mounts.

That may be one of those "roller-reefing" boom/goose neck combos... which I used once and never again.Keith wrote:Just a quick observation. You need to rotate the reefing hook 180 degrees. They should be on the same side as the tack mounts.
Once I was back at the dock, I had "real" reef points added to the main.

I have a 1984 CD22 and have same set up as 2nd picture. Yes the boom fitting sits in the sailfeed slot. To keep the fitting captive I have a cleat mounted in the slot and a line attached from the fitting to the cleat. Sail stops can also be used.

I shot a picture of mine when I was down at the boat yesterday.
