Does anyone know this Typhoon?

I have come across a 1973 Typhoon Weekender that had the original hull id #s (CPDDO420M73D), covered up with a homemade metal tag reading "??LFAH468E(or 3)270. The boat has a valid Florida title matching the tag #... I've tried contacting Florida Div. if Titles to try to get an explanation of this discrepancy, but so far no response. Could this boat have been stolen & retitled? If not, then what might explain this bizarre phenomenon? Any feedback welcome & thanks!
