At 1015 hours this morning, the Weather Channel reported temperature in downtown Miami at 90 degrees. They also reported a "heat index" (the number that REALLY matters ) at 104 At 1015 hours this morning.
They project a heat index of 108-110 by early this afternoon. Probable record
S/V Bali Ha'i is on a trailer at my home. No sailing But even if she were on her mooring, all gussied up and ready to sail I doubt I could withstand the 104 temps. I honestly do not know how others withstand this heat in pursuit of sailing or any other outdoor activity. When I was young I dealt with even worse temps and heat indexes (although where I was I don't think we ever heard the words "heat index"). Now, I just can't do it.
Thankfully, I have a small fresh water pool and recently resupplied with Guinness. I am good for 3-4 days before I will need resupply.
Best wishes to those in South Florida who are sailing today. I tip my Tilley hat to you.

Re: Sailing in Miami in August
Roberto,
We just finished a week with actual temperatures hitting 108. No season for sailing in sunny Saint Louis. We usually do not plan to sail in July or August, but cooler weather is just around the corner. I too have provisioned for the wait.
