Club footed jib--something else to worry about.

Post by M. R. Bober »

The aluminum boom of the club footed jib is secured to its gooseneck with three 3/8" aluminum pop rivets. Today on a shake down cruise the boom and the gooseneck parted company. After returning to the dock for repairs (drill out out rivets and install new ones) it was obvious that years of salt water had eroded the rivets.

Anyway it was a great day. Winds 16 knots with gusts to 22 knots. Reefed main and clubfooted jib. Just a dandy day sail.

It's nice when things like that happen close to home so you can effect repairs in comfort. I'll be eyeballing my rivets tomorrow
