Don't forget to snap some photos while you work on that boat project, then share them here.

Anchor chain vs bowsprit varnish

Post by Jim Walsh »

I have both my bower, kedge, and their associated rollers mounted on my bowsprit. Both of their chain rodes manage to scar the brightwork every season and I dutifully touch it up once again. I'd like nothing more than a few strategically placed chafe pads of 3/16" bronze but I've never wanted it enough to to actually do something about it.
This year I found a piece of Treadmaster on the clearance shelf of a local chandlery. Cheap is always good :D at least temporarily.
I touched up the spots which needed it and let it cure. Then I made a couple templates, cut the Treadmaster to fit, and laid it in place. It has a sticky back but just after the picture was taken I ran a few stainless screws along the perimeters, just because.
Now I'll just have to see how it stands up to abuse this summer!
