Anyone have any experience or opinion about 2 speed mainsheet tackles, particularly Garhauer?

I have no direct answer for you other than Garhauer makes high quality equipment. I have several blocks and a 4 part handy billy, and it is superb, and I think lower priced than Harken, Lewmar, etc.

I haven't used the Garhauer version, but I do know you need a really well done, end-to-end splice to make it work best. Otherwise you will be constantly re-aligning the mainsheet.

I inherited that Garhauer setup when I bought my CD31. The PO added it when he moved the main sheeting from mid-boom to end of boom, with the new traveler on the transom. I have found the 2 speed rig to be very useful, and, though there are now two main sheets cluttering up the cockpit it is surprising how little the two lines actually interfere with each other. I rarely get a tangle or a kink at the clamp and the lines generally run smoothly. The additional mechanical advantage is helpful in a brisk breeze with a full sail. i'll try to set up a picture for you.
