Year of Manufacture?

Yesterday I rescued a CD 14 hull from a grave of briars and weeds. Been there about ten years! Much restoration to do but looking forward to the project! Hull #482. Can anyone tell me the year it was built?

Since you have the hull number do you also have the hull identification number (HIN)

If so, the year of mfg will be the two numbers near the end of the HIN. I say "near the end" because the HIN system changed its system while Cape Dory sailboats (and other sailboat mfgs.) were being built. Sometimes it's character position 11 and 12; other times it character position 10 and 11.

If you know the HIN it should be easy to determine year of mfg. Check out this thread:

Thanks, but this hull seems to pre-date the HIN requirement, which is what caused my question. Appreciate the response.

best guess would be to extrapolate... they built 652 between 1964 and 1973 (according to Cape Dory 14) so I'd guess very early 1970s.
