Hi Mates
I am looking for suggestions for prefab battery boxes for 4 GC-2's (6 volt flooded golf cart batteries). So far, I have the following:
Great price, compact but doesn't look so sturdy or like it would handle the necessary cabling too easily. Also, the lid might be problematic since I have a number of terminal fuse blocks

Expensive, bulky and also too large inside:
webosolar.com/store/en/battery-enclosures/1148-quickbox-commercial-plastic-battery-box-dual-8d-side-by-side.html
Maybe the best so far but still too large inside (but could I put my starter battery in there too???).
It seems like a double 4D would actually be the right size for 4 GC-2's but I can't find anything along those lines.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Matt

Re: Battery Boxes
Prefab boxes are nice and easy but it isn't very difficult to build one out of plywood and fiberglass to the exact dimensions you want. If you can't find an off-the-shelf box that works for you, don't shy away from building one. If you want it removable it is even easier as you can build it in your garage or somewhere equally convenient. I built mine to be integral to some cabinetry (to save as much space as possible) so I was stuck doing it in the cabin.

Re: Battery Boxes
I'm not sure where you plan to mount it but you may also want to consider 2 boxes with 2 batteries in each one. They might be easier to purchase and also easier to install. We have white box with blue screw down lid that holds 2 GC2 batteries. We purchased it from West Marine back in 2008, it has worked out well. They don't seem to handle it anymore (probably too good).
Both MOELLER and NOCO make boxes that handle 2 GC2 batteries (Check Defender and Hamilton).
