Annual Meeting?

Post by Bob Ohler »

Is there one scheduled? I have not seen anything unless I am looking in the wrong place. I don't see a sticky, and I can't find anything in the digital Masthead.

Thanks.

Speaking of the Masthead. My email is registered to "Follow" so it says. I've never received a message that anything new has been posted or updated.
Also I can't figure out how to register for the Masthead. Can someone please help?

Bob,

We have just now gotten Board approval to plan the Annual Meeting to be held at the Navy Pensacola Yacht Club, aboard Naval Air Station, Pensacola Florida, on the weekend of 30 October to 1 November (only weekend available). I will post an article in the Masthead within the next few days giving more details. The Masthead has been inactive this year but I will attempt to revive it for the purpose of getting out the meeting information. For members who have not registered, go to cdsoamasthead.org, registration instructions are provided using your Facebook account, Twitter account, or by creating a free Wordpress account. Once you have registered you will never be able to see these instructions again, and I haven't seen the instructions in several years, so I hope that the registration information that I have just given is correct.

Why are "we" making it so hard to access Masthead :?:

As well documented on this website I lack even a modicum of computer skills. I do not have Facebook, Twitter, Tweater, Snapchat, WordPress or any of the other "hip" websites. I have an email address only. As my goddaughter sarcastically observes "I am a dinosaur". :( I recognize I am in the minority.

I recall being told 1-2 years ago that there was a password that allows CDSOA members to access Masthead. It worked a few times and then stopped working. I did not press the issue and now, many many months later, the password is long gone from my limited memory.

I would think that "we" would want as many sailors as possible (members and non-members) to have EASY access to Masthead so that they can read about the great trips, rendezvouses, etc., that CDSOA offers year-round. The Masthead is a social newsletter. Respectfully, I do not think it needs to be as protected and secure as the Presidential Daily Brief (PDB). :D

Just my two cents. :)

Roberto

Robert,

I too have only a modicum of computer skills, and as stated I have not seen the registration instructions in a number of years, so I just did what you did. I called my grandson and asked him to call up cdsoamasthead.org on his computer. He typed it in and the Masthead immediately popped up, no registration required, no password required. The password that you are referring to allows you to read "protected" articles, articles that we reserve for CDSOA members only. If you do not know that password, and want to read protected articles contact your Fleet Captain or other Board member, the member only password is not to be given on this open website. If all else fails call your granddaughter, it worked for me.

Is anyone else having trouble seeing the Masthead? Possibly I just don't understand the problem.

I'm with Roberto on this and I think I'm pretty computer savy!
But Steve you mentioned something in your first post that stated "The Masthead has been inactive this year but I will attempt to revive it for the purpose of getting out the meeting information".
This is probably the issue, there hasn't been any activity on the Masthead for almost a year. So Roberto and I (and anyone else that shares our feeling) hasn't been missing a thing! But it would be nice read some of old member content if there is such a thing. So how do you get there?
I'm a new CD Typhoon owner and paying member since Fall of 2014. I have never been able to figure out how to view the Member Only content and not aware of any password. I'm not on Facebook, Twitter so signing up that way is out. I signed up for a Word Press account last year as the instructions said. I haven't been able to get into it or get a password reset ever since.
This morning I did get an email that there was a new posting in the Mast Head. So that worked.

Masthead inactivity, etc.

Masthead's activity depends on the volunteer efforts of CDSOA members, for admin, editing and content. Step right up if you think you can add value!

Does anybody remember the days where Noel Peattie would hand type the Cape Dory newsletter called "The Typhooner" ? Once a month we would receive a real newsletter discussing Cape Dory related issues. The fee was, send what you could afford. The expenses where photocopies and "postage". Are we moving in the right direction ???

It couldn't be easier to access the online MASTHEAD. There are several links to it from various pages of this web site. It's so easy to get to, even a "dinosaur" can do it.

1. You can get to the MASTHEAD by scrolling to the top of this very page and clicking on the CDSOA's logo. That'll take you to our home page (the message board's index page is NOT our home page). Then scroll down and click on the MASTHEAD link in the "How do Cape Dory owners benefit?" section.

2. You can get to the MASTHEAD by scrolling to the top of this very page and clicking on the "Member Benefits" graphic/link. That'll take you to our "Member Benefits" page. Once there you can click on the MASTHEAD link in the "Newsletter" section.

3. You can get to the MASTHEAD by scrolling to the top of this very page and clicking on the "News & Events" graphic/link. That'll take you to our "Fleet Events" page. Once there you can click on the "MASTHEAD online" link that appears directly below the "2015 Fleet Events" heading.

Also, please keep in mind that the only items that appear in the MASTHEAD are items that have been submitted by you, our members. So if you haven't submitted anything, well, there won't be anything for anybody else to read. But yes, the info for the upcoming Annual General Memberhip Meeting is there. If it's not the first item you see (and it won't be), just scroll down.

Cathy, perhaps the Masthead has become roadkill of new technology. That is, there are so many live and near-live comments on CD stuff on the website that a "legacy" newsletter has become "overcome by events," or OBE as we say in the military.

I've found the Masthead and the Feb 2013 article but thought that stuff that was being typed online was much more relevant. That's my two cents...

I've never heard that acronym before, Skeep, but I think you've hit the problem on the head. Sad but true IMHO.

Hmmmm, kind-a sort-a Roberto. We used to say that "no plan survives first contact" which is similar to your statement. OBE may be a bit less unfortunate and perhaps less painful.
