U.F.O. spotted in Block Island Sound

Post by Jim Walsh »

I saw this "unidentified floating object" while passing down Block Island Sound three weeks ago. It seemed to be in a stationary position close to the Southwest Ledge. I've heard a wind generator is in Block's future but I arrived at the island two days ago and I didn't notice any tower sitting in that position. Anyone have any idea what this affront to all which is decent has gone?

I've heard of a wind farm in the area but those don't look like the proposed towers. Possibly Fixed Navigation Towers?

It's the offshore wind project that began construction this past July. There will be five 300 foot wind turbines just off the southern shore of Block Island. Here is a link to the project.

It went south east.

When I came in from off shore two weeks ago they had two of the bases set off to the south east of the island and a huge crane was also there with them. The barge with these three was anchored, with a large tug in attendance, where you noticed them. They must have moved them over to their final destination. If you get around to the south side you should see them there.

They are kind of hard to miss, Steve.
