Registry by Model & Hull Number
Hi -
I was just looking for the old registry if CD's where you could scan the owners (sometimes current sometimes past) of various boats by both model and hull number (and I believe you could also sort by state). Has that feature been removed? If not, could someone point me toward it? Thanks!
I hope everyone is having a great spring!

This is it but it was hacked months ago and no one has volunteered to repair or replace. Members do get a Registry which is a hard copy version.

CDSOA Webmaster wrote:The link provided above -- http://www.capedory.org/index.htm -- is NOT the link to the registry of boats and their owners, it is the link to the CDSOA's home page and there is nothing wrong with it.
The Registry of Boats and their owners is a resource of the CCDOA (California Cape Dory Owners Assn.) not of the CDSOA (Cape Dory Sailboat Owners Assn., Inc.). The site you are visiting right now, is that of the CDSOA. We merely provide a link to the registry which, unfortunately, is no longer being maintained by the CCDOA.
It is easily hacked, so use it at your own risk

Re: Registry by Model & Hull Number
How is new info being added or edited in the new "Registry by Model and Hull Number"?
I am the new "guardian and caretaker" of 1982 Typhoon Daysailer model k hull number 97. I sold my Typhoon Weekender hull #1077. I also noticed my edit of ownership last Aug '14 from the old owner didn't carry over to the new list. I would like to make sure the correct info is put in.
I think the list is a great resource and find it interesting to scroll back looking at the history of ownership and where the boats are.
Thank you
Rick

Re: Registry by Model & Hull Number
Even before it was hacked, the Registry was a remnant of a much prior version of this site and message board. It did (and would) have some value, but one drawback is that information was never purged, and so it tended to "age out." As Jim Walsh notes, CDSOA publishes a hard copy member directory every other year... I find it invaluable while cruising, as each listing is complete with boat names, owner names, and contact information including cell phone numbers. (I've noted that more of us monitor our phones than our radios.)

Thanks Neil.
The hard copy of the Member Directory is very valuable and useful for current info as you mentioned.
But I believe the old "never purged" list is a valuable historical record of past ownership of our little pieces of history.
When we first became interested in buying a CD Typhoon about 2 years ago I started hanging around and learning about these boats from this website. It was a great help. We really wanted a Daysailer cuddy version. They never seemed to come up for sale and when they did they weren't near us, sold fast and other issues. We settled on a local Weekender that was a steal of a price last Aug. I joined (paid) CDSOA and went on the old registry and listed us as the new owners of the boat. What was pretty neat about the old list was I found the seller's info that confirmed his story of ownership and I found the prior owners info too. That provided me a time line of ownership and a little history of the boat.
This last winter I used the old data to identify Daysailer models which I sent emails to 3 Ty Daysailers that were with in 4 hour of us asking for tips as a new owner. One reply came back that they have loved the boat for many years and it's for sale!!! SCORE!
We recently sold our Weekender to a local person who also has been hanging around the website for awhile and used the same strategy of historical ownership, info about the boat and felt comfortable buying her from me.
From this message thread I see there is an Excel version of the list that's read only. I'm willing to volunteer to help keep it updated and protected, read VOLUNTEER TO HELP. Just want be clear with the team approach.
Thanks for reading and interested in other opinions.

Re: Registry by Model & Hull Number
I agree that the 'never updated list" is a great record. I was able to locate and contact a couple of prior owners of my boat through that info. I'd be more than happy to assist it getting it back on line as well.

Re: Registry by Model & Hull Number
and I'll add exactly 2 cents worth: agree with all above, for when I looked in the national registry of sailboats I could not find a trace for my hull there and thus the "old list" was at least a start. It might be a fair assumption to say that "we are the remnants now."

Never deleted might be the better standard. A closing entry that reads "Sold to ____ on ____" might be worthwhile.MFC wrote:I agree that the 'never updated list" is a great record.

Re: Registry by Model & Hull Number
As the membership chair, I keep all of these records. I have them going back for many years in our database. If a member contacts me requesting specific information about the history of a boat, I share what I have. I have found that many of the people who have sold their boats are not interested in sharing more than "Boat was sold. Heading to RI." or the like. I don't think most feel it is their business to share who they sold it to.
This is a directory year coming up. Suggestions for additions are welcome.

Re: Registry by Model & Hull Number
I created a "read only" replacement registry last December. You can find more info and a link to it in the post where I announced it then. See:
http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic ... ry#p179992
MFC and RJNALE - Thanks for your offers to help keep this unofficial replacement registry updated. If you send me a private message via this forum I'll send you the information you need to be granted editing privileges.
ADMINS - Perhaps you'd consider changing this board's registry link to point to this replacement instead of the hacked version?

Re: Registry by Model & Hull Number
Just a thought about the Registry: Since it is no longer available as an active document on the site for easy update and modification, maybe we could have a sticky thread where a) the document address was linked prominently and b) anyone could request changes and updates to the registry. Dino has done a great job making some updates already and I think a few of us would be happy to work on maintaining the registry. Anyway, just a suggestion from the (non member) cheap seats.
Best
