New Monitor wind vane installation

New Monitor wind vane installation
Cold, intermittent showers, wind, occasional sunshine. Perfect time to install a wind vane. Since I was working alone I had to devise a means of lifting the unit and securing it so I could make the critical measurements, drill the necessary mounting holes, and generally do with two hands a task which often begged for four. The tough part would be getting the main frame suspended in mid-air in it's approximate final mounting position. With my limited imagination and engineering skills I decided a temporary dingy davit would fit the bill. It was lashed in place and worked perfectly. Three 2X3's cost about six bucks, money well spent. I had the four part tackle on the boat already and it also was ideal for this task. After securing the tackle to the cross beam of the "davit" and the main frame of the Monitor all I had to do was lift it into its approximate position and follow the assembly and mounting instructions. Much easier said than done but "all's well that ends well" and the result is a solid installation.

Great install! Which wind vane did you buy, would it work on a 28? I sure wish I could have bought your windless from you. Thanks for sharing.

A "Monitor". Yes, it would work on a 28. Here's hyperlink if you're interested.flyboy5724 wrote:Great install! Which wind vane did you buy, would it work on a 28? I sure wish I could have bought your windless from you. Thanks for sharing.

Your three (3) photos show up rotated 90 degrees on my computer screen. Confident that it is not my computer screen I am wondering how many Guinness you consumed before taking these photos

That's strange. They are right side up on my iPad. I wonder how they appear to everyone else? If I could have rotated my boat 90 degrees it would have made installation easier

The first photo was a little confusing until I knocked over my computer monitor then they all looked good.
Great job Jim. You don't mess around when it comes to problem solving, Steve.
