Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) and Oil Consumption

Post by Skylark »

Has anyone tried the "Walker Airsep" kit? This includes an air filter and oil separator and hoses. It is design to maintain a negative pressure in the crankcase and return oil from the breather pipe back to the crankcase. The standard Perkins 4-108 just has the breather tube up near the air intake screen. I believe with the 15 degree angle of the engine and the valve cover breather at the back of the engine (on the downhill end) that an excess amount of oil vapor is being pulled into the air intake of my Perkins 4.108.

The kit retails for $450 and is currently on sale though West Marine at $375.

A possibly less complex solution is to reverse the valve cover but, I believe the vent tube on the valve cover would need to be moved.

We installed it 3 years ago and like it. Bought it from Foley for about $400. Easy to install. Noticeable reduction in oil consumption.
