CD 27 Cabin Top Jib Track & Blocks

Post by Richard G. »

I will be sailing in SF Bay where it can get up there in wind. My new 90% Jib was designed to be led through the blocks on the cabin top tracks on my CD 27 to retain shape. Wondering if the 3/4” track with the relatively small blocks are up to the task. My prior experience is sailing in Los Angeles with a 150% genoa led back to the toe rail. I have never used the cabin top track and blocks and wondering if I should upgrade this equipment.

Thanks.

Richard,

I'm hardly the expert you are looking for but that being said you own a CD27, one of the sweetest sailing boats Cape Dory made!

My guess is that Cape Dory and Carl Albert were not ever thinking, "I hope no one sails this thing in SF." Besides, the east coast can get plenty of wind as well.

That being said, I don't think 3/4 inch track is available now so upgrading it may be on your to do list just to widen the variety of cars you can put on it.

Go show SF how its done!

Good point, but I wonder if they were original to the boat.

Slainte, our 1981 27 has 1" T-tracks. I have not explored how they are through bolted, but they have done well for us here in the Mid-west. I'm not so sure about Hurricane Gultch.
