Ring found inbedded in keel

Yesterday I was cleaning my new to me typhoon day sailor (1981) and found what seem to be a lifting ring imbedded in the keel.
it is slightly forward of the opening in the floor into the bilge which is covered by a grate If it is a lifting point like the one I had on my" Bulls eye"
why is it out of align with the opening? in order to use it I would have to make a hook of sorts so the crane could lift the boat with out putting pressure on the floor. Any ideas as to the function of the eye imbedded in the keel? thanks
