Where can I get a boom crutch for my Cape Dory 10

Post by Sealyham »

i am looking for some advice about a boom crutch for my Cape Dory 10. My boat sits at a dock and I cannot get there every day. I don't like to leave the boat open to the weather, so I'd like to get a boom tent. But I'd need a boom crutch to make the whole thing work. Suggestions?

What about using a topping lift?

The beauty of the sliding Gunter rig is that it can easily be removed and stored in the boat. It is not really the kind of rig that will befit from having a boom crutch or topping lift.

If I wanted to cover the boat, I would bundle all the spars and either carry them ashore or drop them in the boat. Now you can put on a regular dinghy cover with a couple of bows to support it. I believe the spars are slightly longer than the CD-10 so you might have to have the cover made to work around them at the stern.

A proper cover will be far more secure than any thing you could make up in the way of a boom tent and will also protect the entire rig.

Unless you are planning to use the boat as a beach cruiser and sleep on it somehow I would forget about the boom tent, Steve.
