I'd like to refinish the cabin sole on my '82 CD 28. I've read a number of articles, books, and the archives but am not sure what finish was applied by the factory. Since it's a thin veneer would sanding alone prep it for the varnish I intend to use?
Thanks for any thoughts and guidance.

Re: Cabin Sole Refinishing
Guy,
I think that you might get in trouble sanding a thin wood veneer. It already has some wear and tear on it since it was first installed.
Is it just dirty? You might try cleaning it first. Don't use any floor finish that contains any wax type shining agent. If you do, the final finish won't adhere properly.
Good luck,
O J

I would use a heat gun to remove the varnish, then follow these instructions:

I sanded mine lightly with a palm orbital, and varnished with Verathane. Looks and lasts great.
