CD31 raw water pump replacement

I bought a new Oberdorfer pump to replace the one on my universal 25. I can't get the key in the pump shaft to fit into the groove on the engine shaft. It seems to be very slightly wider than the engine shaft groove. Has anyone experience this? Should I file the key a little or freeze the shaft on the pump to get the fit.
