Typhoon mainsail reefing

Post by Chris Hill »

The mainsail on my recently purchased Ty has a set of jiffy reef points which I cannot quite figure out how to work. The reefed downhaul line (exuse the crude terminology) is stopped by a part which stops the sail slides from falling out of the slot on the mast. And since my boom sits below that slot, I can't figure out how to bring the reefed downhaul line down closer to the boom without taking out a couple of sail slides.
If anybody has a Ty with a successfully installed jiffy reefing setup, I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Happy sailing

I installed jiffy reefing on my CD25 and I have to take the slug stop out and move the lower slugs past the slot. I then pop the stop back in and tension the halyard. I can't see that there would be any other way to do it. Good sailing. Jerry

I have the same situation that you and Jerry describe, 2 slugs must drop out when reefing. In the July 97 Typhooner an interesting letter describes a new Quantum sail rigged to avoid this problem.
