Lovingly restored Cape Dory Typhoon Weekender 19 for sale

Post by Marge Welling »

Cape Dory Typhoon Weekender 19 with trailer. 1976. Located in Newberg, Oregon. $19,000.

The Cape Dory Typhoon Weekender is a tough and forgiving timeless classic designed by Carl Alberg. 2000+ of these gems were built between 1966 and 1986. 'Sequoia' is Hull #1173. Nicknamed "America's littlest yacht", she is kindly, stable, stout, and remarkably dry.

'Sequoia' was lovingly restored with absolutely no expense spared between 2008 and 2010:
•Removal of all hardware and wood trim
•Sandblasting of the hull to bare fiberglass
•Fastidious refinishing and repainting with Pettit two-part epoxy of the deck, hull, mast, and boom
•Deck resurfacing with KiwiGrip in a medium nonstick pattern
•Seven coats of InterProtect 2000 antifouling paint
•Replacement of all external trim with African mahogany by a professional cabinetry craftsman
•Hatch cover fabricated of alternating strips of mahogany and maple (striking and gorgeous)
•Replacement of all thru-hull fittings with new bronze valves
•Refurbishment of classic bronze hardware: cleats, winches, chocks, etc.
•Replacement of tracks, blocks, tiller shift, and other hardware with modern gear
•Reinstallation of hardware with backing plates using “West System” technology for superior strength

Outfitted with Top-of-the-Line Sails, Sheets, and Sail-Handling Systems:
•Rolly Tasker fully battened main, 100% jib, and 150% genoa all in excellent condition and all new in 2008 with very light use
•Storm jib, 120 genoa, drifter, and spinnaker all in very good condition
•Whisker pole
•2 original bronze sail winches
•Halyards replaced in 2010
•Danforth anchor with plenty of chain & 200' line

Easiest Outboard You’ll Ever Own:
•Featherweight air-cooled 4-stroke Honda with internal fuel tank
•Drives the boat at hull speed at half throttle with a range of 7-10 nautical miles between refills
•Mounts conveniently on the original outboard cradle (which still looks virtually new)
•When not in use, stores easily below the cockpit sole in a custom-built cradle

Electrical & Electronics:
•One 12v battery, new 2010
•Running lights
•Cabin light
•12v outlet
•Depth meter

Additional Gear & Upgrades:
•Like-new interior cushions for v-berth, quarter berth, and interior seating area
•Like-new over-the-boom style cockpit awning
•Mainsail cover
•Whisker pole, fenders, dock lines
•Manual bilge pump
•Stands for dry-docking/repairs
•2009 bottom paint is in like new condition
•1987 single-axle Conroy Boat Trailer with spare tire

History:
•Originally built 36 years ago at the Cape Dory yard in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts
•Previous owner restored the boat in 2008 to 2010 in his shop in Texas.
•Fall of 2010 current owner purchased from previous owner in Texas
•Used Four Times by Current Owner Since the Restoration/Delivery in the Fall of 2010:
•Current owner never has had it in the water for more than 3 days
•Current owner stores on a trailer in a climate controlled, fully-enclosed workshop

Bottom Line:
'Sequoia' is one of the finest examples of a CD Typhoon Weekender you will find anywhere. She has been lovingly restored to better-than-factory condition. Her classic design and stunning custom woodwork garner more attention than boats costing ten times as much – and she is more fun to own and to sail!
