Any interest in Wellfleet 2nd half of Aug.?

Post by Stan W. »

Would anyone be interested in a midweek float-in at Wellfleet, MA either the week of Aug. 19 or the week of Aug. 27?

Laura and I have vacation planned the week of the 19th, without specifics so far. We were thinking of going north or south depending on the weather but a float-in would tilt us in your direction. If it's the following week, count me in, weather permitting.
Fair winds, Neil

We start our week on the 25th and heading south. Red brook, edgartown, OB, cuttyhunk then work our way back via scituate to Winthrop over labor day weekend.

I will look for any and all CD's as well as Sea Sprites.

Hi -

Not sure about our late summer plans, but I am curious about Wellfleet. How is the harbor as an anchorage? Do you have to take a mooring or is there good anchoring ground. Is it very crowded on weekends (as I'd expect). Is there a dinghy doc and access to town?

Thanks!

Wellfleet has very few moorings suitable for keel boats but there is lots of room for them to anchor in the outer harbor. The bottom is mud and sand so the holding is good. The outer harbor is exposed to the south and would be uncomfortable in a strong south wind, but that is not very common. The town dock is a longish but still doable dinghy ride from the anchorage. I don't really know about room to tie up your dink but maybe someone else can speak to that. The anchorage is a pretty spot with easy access to beaches and nature trails. There are a few decent places to eat and drink ashore as well as several small art galleries. I've always thought Wellfleet was an underappreciated destination; probably because you have to anchor out and the dinghy ride in is kind of long.
