Replacing Freshwater Pump

Post by Jeff Peterson »

Does anyone have recommendations on a replacement for the freshwater pump on an 83 Cape Dory 36? Original pump finally gave out...non of the specs on it are readable. Manual says system has 25-35 psi..but does not reference GPM...I am looking at a Shurflo pump with 30 psi..at 2 GPM....the next size up is 3 GPM with 50 psi....is there a reason to go up to the higher GPM...or would 50 psi overpressure the system? Thanks

I put in a 5gpm pump, it did not cause any issues with the pressure water system.

My feeling is bigger is better in this case, if you plan to do things like shower on the boat.

All depends on the number of faucets connected to the supply that MIGHT be opened at the same time. OR a shower, which is a biggie for needing lots of flow... somewhere there is a rule of thumb for GPM/faucet...
