1984 Cape Dory 27 And Trailer For Sale - $16,500

Post by rlanou »

A carefully maintained and very well built boat. Always in freshwater, she spent her first years on Lake Michigan and Kerr Lake. She is currently out of the water and in an enclosed shop in Creedmoor, North Carolina.

She has a Yanmar inboard diesel and a wheel helm. She also has a custom made trailer. While it takes a careful effort to load her on and unload her from the trailer, we have towed her with a ¾ pick-up truck significant distances with no issues. There are three total owners of the boat. The first owner sold her to my father. I bought her, with partners, from my father many years ago. She has been in my family for more than 15 years. She is a 1984 model.

The hull and deck are solid and we observed no soft spots or blisters. Several years ago we had the hull professionally soda-blasted and refinished. She does need new bottom paint again. The teak is in good shape and is clean but does need to be sanded and oiled again (or varnished if you prefer). We keep the hull and topsides clean and we wax once a season. There are hairline cracks in the deck surface (Gel-coat?) that I am told are typical for fiberglass boats of this vintage. I understand that this is not structural. A surveyor would be able to tell you more.

A recent issue that I noticed is that the portholes need to be re-bedded and sealed. There are very small leaks starting around these windows. This is the first time in all the years of having this boat that I have seen even a small amount of water inside and feel that this needs to be corrected.

She has some nice canvas, including a dodger, dorade vent covers, helm station cover, and winch covers. We just had these re-stitched and new straps made.

Her main is in fair condition and she has a self-furling foresail in good condition. There is an extra 110 jib. She has a depth finder and wind meter as well as a VHF radio and helm station mounted compass. The wind meter is new and has never been hooked up. The depth finder works well.

While the lines and sheets are useable, my view is that they should be replaced in the next year or two.

The helm station is not factory. Instead, it is a professional conversion done almost immediately after the boat was originally purchased. The wheel, compass, and controls work flawlessly.

Interior is original and in very good condition. Cockpit cushions are also in good shape. Head and water systems work fine. She has new OEM screens for the ports.

The Yanmar diesel works very well and has for the history of the boat. The engine compartment in tidy and clean. I’ve had the request for engine hours and have hunted for an hour meter and been unable to locate it (if it exists). The boat has gotten very light fresh water use. The engine, again, works very well and has been consistently and carefully maintained.

She has a very long list of equipment, from the anchor to the barbeque. We have a hard shell dinghy with a small outboard that is not included but that is available for additional cost of $900.

$16,500 for the boat and trailer. They are not separable. The trailer is made for this boat.

This is the best info that I have. I'm happy to chat with you on the phone if you would like to know more.

We will consider negotiating delivery within a reasonable distance.
