If they can have a contest, so can we.

(Please be registered in the Northeast Fleet, as I have no intention of diluting Mike's efforts.)

Anything Goes?

Post by Carl Thunberg »

Are there any rules to this photo contest, or are general sailing photos fair game? Here's one for anyone who's spent any time wedged under the cockpit sole trying to work on a CD30 V-Drive engine facing backward. Trivia question. What's missing from this picture?

Rules?

Carl,

There are no rules. No prizes, either, other than the oooos and ahhhs of admiring fans.

Another sunset - Blue Hill, Maine

Post by Duncan »

This was taken last month, looking toward the inner harbour at Blue Hill, Maine.

It's just an iPod shot, but I think maybe the low resolution makes it all warm and fuzzy :) .

One possible prize is you get the picture widely disseminated on a Cape Dory t-shirt. In that case, there's a single judge, the person running the event memorialized by the shirt. My wardrobe contains some notable examples from prior Northeast Fleet events.

Crusty Old Sailor

you mean like a shot of this crusty old sailor? ;)

John
Sailing involves the courage to cherish adventure and the wisdom to fear danger. Knowing where one ends, and the other begins, makes all the difference.

Those who want to have any chance at all of finishing in the money in this contest should learn from Mr. Ring.

Note that his composition includes not only a classic example of Mr. Alberg's design, but an historic lighthouse and hints of a major sailing center in the background. Note also the various vertical elements; the lighthouse, masts in the background, mast and sails in the foreground and handsome sailor in the cockpit. This of course nicely meshed with horizontal elements of the hull, sky, water and land.

But for naming his entry "Crusty Old Sailor" I'd say he'd have been in first place. (And I'm not suggesting that renaming it "Crusty Old Northeast Fleet Captain" will improve his standing.)

Include Cape Dorys....

Post by Cathy Monaghan »

If you want a chance at getting your photo on a Northeast Fleet rendezvous t-shirt, it should probably include a photo of all or part of a Cape Dory(s).
