There have been postings ad infinitum here on Cetol vs Armada. I have decided upon Cetol. However while visiting the West Marine Store they are pushing a private label synthetic which supposedly has less pigmentation than Cetol. My specific question is this- has anyone out there used this product or have first hand knowledge of both CETOL and this WEST MARINE WOOD PRO?

I don't have any knowledge about the West Marine product, but I did notice (in recent issue of SOUNDINGS, I think) that Cetol is coming out with a "Cetol light" to add to the regular Cetol and the Cetol Gloss. You might want to check it out? Regards, Bill

Just to confuse the issue
A local custom boat builder is recommending a combination of 2-3 coats of Armada, covered with Cetol gloss. I have seen it and it looks alot like varnish. The "orange" look that Cetol imparts is gone, nor is it that chololate brown that Armada sometimes yields. The claim is near varnish looks, with the maintenance ease Cetol provides. According to the builder, Practical Sailor endorsed this combo.
Anybody got any feelings about this????????

Re: Just to confuse the issue
As I wanted a deeper finish with Armada I called them and asked if I could build beyond 3 coats. Their answer was that the Armada is pourous and with 3 coats can breath moisture through the finish thus preventing pop off or discoloring assosiated with varnish. They did not recomend building the coats beyond 3 as it will seal the breathing of the finish.
