CD 25 Bow Roller
I would be interested in hearing from +/- 1974 CD 25 owners regarding bow roller installations...I would really like to replace my Danforth ground tackle [suspended from the bow pulpit with Wilcox-Crittenden hardware] with a CQR or Bruce anchor in a bow roller.
Every way that I can conceive of it has the fixed bow roller making one or the other of the [P+S] fixed chocks in the stemhead casting unusable; however, the ability to use this type of anchor (for reasons of its holding and resistance to fouling characteristics) has attraction to me, even if I have to give up one of the bow chocks to accomplish it...I have installed newer chainpipe to allow stowing of the lead chain (30 feet of 3/8" on a 21H Danforth) in the forepeak)minimizing the weight in the eyes of the boat problem, but I have experienced tide changes and fouling that militate for the superior non-fouling aspect of the 'burying'type anchor. I have confidence that the well-set Danforth would see me through a hurricane, but alas in Maine, the tide changes direction from time to time. Ideas?
Thanks,

Re: CD 25 Bow Roller
Bruce, I have seen a CD27 with a nicely installed bowsprit that accomplishes what you are trying to achieve. In this case the bronze bow fitting was removed and ground flat on its bottom then reinstalled on a securley bolted and backed teak bowsprit with plenty of room for a plow anchor and roller .I would suppose the head stay would need to be replaced to a longer one.If I were keeping my CD25 I would make this modification in a heartbeat.RONI would be interested in hearing from +/- 1974 CD 25 owners regarding bow roller installations...I would really like to replace my Danforth ground tackle [suspended from the bow pulpit with Wilcox-Crittenden hardware] with a CQR or Bruce anchor in a bow roller.

I have installed a bow roller on the port side of my '75 CD25. It carries a 25# CQR. It works very well. We have also installed 2 hawse pipes to lead the chains and nylon rodes below. (We also carry a Danforth on the bow pulpit). Currently we lift the chain from the Danforth and feed it down the pipe but the roller works so much better when retrieving the rode, we will install a second roller on the starbord side for the Danforth this winter.
I have a photo of the setup I can e-mail you if you wish.

I'd be very interested in doing the same to my 25. I'd appreciate a picture of what you've done. Thanks.
