2010 Diesel Engine Classes?

Post by Evergreen »

We have a CD 36 with a Perkins engine.

Does anyone know of any upcoming diesel engine maintenance classes that they would recommend???

We saw the recommendations in the search history for classes pertaining to Yanmar engines but we were wondering if there were any good general classes that would be relevant to Perkins engines also.

Thanks for your input

I went to the Hansen Marine class the November before last in Marblehead when considering a repower or rebuild. It was was very informative. It's not really specific to a particular make, although they are a Westerbeake dealer. I think ther run a class in the spring also. Theirwebsite might be out of date.

Mack Boring

Post by Warren Kaplan »

Mack Boring in Union NJ has (had) a one and two day class in diesels. Hands on! Mack Boring is a very large Yanmar rep but the class is good for any diesel. They had Larry Berlin teaching the course, a well known diesel expert often seen in the sailing magazines. I took my course many years ago so it may have changed.

Google Mack Boring. I'm sure they have a website and the course should be somewhere on there. Had many dates for it too.

Wooden Boat School - Maine

Post by Evergreen »

Sharon and I ended up registering for the week long course at the Wooden Boat School in Maine, during the first week of June. We figured a week would allow us to really get into some depth on the topic.

The US Sail & Power Squadron offers an engine maintenance class. I can't speak to the quality because I have just signed up to take it. You can find your local group on Google from the main Squad page.

Mass Maritime...

Post by BillNH »

Mass Maritime offers a series of Continuing Ed classes aimed at commercial fishermen and recreational boaters. Prices are quite reasonable. I know they had a diesel class; as I recall it is a weekend class...
