Blog vs Web Site

Post by barfwinkle »

Good Morning from Sunny Oklahoma

Well as the winter days tick away, I have been contemplating updating Rhapsody's web site and have done a bit. I was finally able to get an current copy of the software used for this purpose, started the endeavor, and got to thinking: Which (see Subject line) would method of internet exposure would be more convenient?

I know what is involved in modest web site management and I control ALL CONTENT! No banners, no ads no nothing that I dont want or put there! That's how I like it.

Now, is there a blog site that will allow me to do the same? That way I dont have to worry about software or which computer I happen to be working on. All I need is a computer with internet access. That is a big plus for blogs, but what about content control?

Any sage advise for the board would be highly appreciated.

Fair winds and remember my CD Brethern, Spring must be just around the corner as I am down to less than one rick of wood, and IF I run out the ADMIRAL will let the cat out of the bag and rig the grate!!!!!

I've made a few small web sites with Yahoo. I've made free ones with advertising, and hosted ones for less then $10/month. They have web based tools to create them. They are basic, but they work. If later you want to use a more robust tool you can.

Our Mahalo web site is hosted by Ipower. Part of the package included Wordpress blogging software. I think we pay about $7 a month. The plans keep changing and they usually get better for less $ each year. We used Wordpress for "Nemo's Dlog 2007". I closed it up for comments about a year ago because I was getting automated spam postings. I think with the later software this problem was fixed. I need to update the Mahalo web site since it has a few dead links that need fixing.

website creation

Post by viv »

I also use the free version of yahoo (geocities) and it works great. Just a little ad from yahoo pops up in the upper right corner then fades away. It is easy to build for simple websites. Google just recently came out with Google Sites. That is also free.

If you want no ads and your own domain name, then I would suggest the cheapest package at Network Solutions. I set up my work websites that way. On network solutions you can either use the web based site creator (which is easy and there are no downloads) or use your own web program and just upload to Network solutions.

Good Luck.

The Artist is not born to a life of pleasure.
He must not live idle;
he has hard work to perform,
and one which often proves a cross to be borne.
He must realize that his every deed, feeling, and thought
are raw but sure material from which his work is to arise,
That he is free in Art but not in life.
