cd 25 roller furling

Post by David Evans »

My cd 25 has a schaeffer (sic?) roller furling jib. Like many rigs, this one is held in place by the jib halyard. I have it pulled pretty tight, but there seems to be a bit of sag. How is this sag affecting my windward performance? How tight should the luff wire be? Any advice would be appreciated.

If you have the old style furler (free of the forestay), there's a
limit to how tight you can get it. I just replaced mine on a CD28
with a CDI furler.

My old furler was rigged with a block that doubled the halyard...
one end of the halyard secured to the top of the mast, through the
block, then over the sheave and down to a winch. You could get it
pretty tight, but there was still sag in the genoa luff.

I just put a CDI unit on my 25' with a 135% genny. I think I should have gone to the 150%. any thoughts about your CDI.

Paul,

With half a season gone, the CDI furler is doing just fine. No problem with
the furler itself except that it's sometimes hard to furl because of the small
size of the furling line. In a blow where the genoa is flogging, I take a
couple of turns around a winch.
