Hole in port side of 1976 CD25

Post by Bill Jarrell »

I have been seriously looking at a 1976 CD25 and have gone as far as to get a Marine Survey (looks like its coming out pretty good). While we were inspecting the hull we saw a round hole approx 3/4-1 inch in diameter in the upper hull about 6 inches down from the tow rail and located on the outer hull where the head is located. It is definitely a round hole, "manmade" vs. punched, and looks like a fitting might have gone there. When I talked to the owner I didn't get any help. He thought he remembered some fitting that went to the head but wasn't sure. Does anyone have any ideas, and what I should do with my "hole"?....Thanks Bill

Hi Bill,
Perhaps the hole is for a holding tank vent. The size and location is about right.

If it is a holding tank vent, Spartan Marine makes a really nice bronze replacement vent. I replaced both of my vents (fuel and head tanks) on my 1980 CD27 because the original steel ones were corroded and about to fall off. The Spartan vent is expensive, however, about $30 with shipping.
